Thought you might like to know- the accent of the man who says “girl” like “guru” is almost certainly supposed to be Japanese. The way his part is narrated sounds very Chinese, which was somewhat off putting. Not all Asian people are Chinese. Your narration is excellent, so this really stuck out to me.
This is actually one of the really hard parts about adapting a story like this to an audio format. I studied Japanese for 4 years and spent my last semester of college in Tokyo, so I know that it would likely have been “gaaru” instead of “guru” but I always choose to follow the text in instances like this. Unfortunately, once I’d pronounced it as “guru” it was hard for me to correct the accent mid-sentence. Combine that with trying to do an accent in a voice somewhat different from my own and it becomes quite difficult.
